Andrea Doria is a battleship with 320 mm caliber. It has the smallest caliber among battleships. Even though it has decent shell velocity and accuracy, it lacks penetration to deal meaningful damage. Even against broadsiding battleships, it’s rare for Andrea Doria to inflict a citadel damage. At long range, the air drag slows the shells down, making its penetration even lower.

The main perk of Andrea Doria is that it’s small and maneuverable. The maneuverability helps it survive for quite some time. However, many battleships that it’s going to face have 380 mm guns or more. Andrea Doria can’t overmatch their armor, but they can overmatch and citadel Andrea Doria from any angle. Against battleships with less than 380 mm guns, Andrea Doria can fight equally. However, against battleships with 380 mm guns or more, Andrea Doria’s winning chance is very low.

Andrea Doria’s AA is terrible. Even against an MMweight 5.9 CV, Andrea Doria can’t shoot down more than 3 planes per strike.

Playstyle

If the enemy has 380 mm guns or more, Andrea Doria needs a good teammate to survive. It’s highly recommended that you sail to a flank, shoot at the enemy’s broadside, and create a crossfire with your teammate. If you can’t do that, use kiting position and don’t rush the enemy. Use speed juke to dodge incoming attacks. Learn how to speed juke. Fight at long range if you don’t have the skill to evade enemy’s attacks. Your damage output will be low, but at least you survive much longer. If the enemy has less than 380 mm guns, Andrea Doria can fight more aggressively. Use HE against angled enemies, AP if the enemy is broadsiding.

Due to low shell arc, hiding behind island is often impossible. You have to maneuver constantly while fighting in open water. Keep in mind that it has bad turret firing angle. Sometimes, keeping the ship angled is much better than exposing broadside just to fire all guns. In a CV battle, sail together with your teammates so they can protect you with their AA.

Is it worth to buy?

Andrea Doria is a low tier battleship with below average performance. Because it’s sold in gems, it’s not worth buying. Better to save your gems to buy a strong high tier battleship like Illinois.
