Clemenceau is a “what-if” version of Richelieu but with Iowa’s main guns (406 mm/50 Mk. 7) and different consumable. Clemenceau is very strong in medium to short range combat. Clemenceau doesn’t have to show broadside to shoot all guns. Bowtanking in other ships usually makes them lose 1/3 – 1/2 of their firepower, but Clemenceau is actually at full power that way. Clemenceau can just sit bowtanking and outgun the enemy. Despite its name, Clemenceau is in the American ship group.

Even though Clemenceau only has 6 guns, it has fast reload which makes the DPM pretty high. It also has the highest accuracy among MMweight 8.0 battleships. The HE performance is very good, typical of American shells. Clemenceau’s AP performance is sometimes higher than Richelieu because of higher penetration and damage. Even if the enemy battleship is bowtanking, hitting the superstructure with AP can still inflict ~10k damage. However, Clemenceau is not good at sniping due to slow shell velocity.

Clemenceau has strong armor. In addition, because it just needs to bowtank the enemies all the time, it’s very hard to sink. A properly positioned Clemenceau will be a thorn that can’t be removed. However, if the enemies are at the rear Clemenceau will struggle to fight them. Interestingly, Clemenceau’s repair consumable has fast cooldown. Its survival in an intense battle is better than other battleships.

Clemenceau is a fast battleship with 31.5 knots speed. Using its excellent concealment, it can sneak up and ambush enemy ships. The AA is very good, even better than many higher tier battleships. Unlike French battleships, it doesn’t have engine booster or reload booster consumable.

Playstyle

The best position for Clemenceau is sitting beside a big island and shoot enemies directly in front of it. The island acts as a cover so only one or two enemies can shoot it back. There’s no reason to let your ship get focused by multiple enemies. You just need to fight one at a time. Because most islands are located near capture sites, this automatically makes Clemenceau an aggressive attacker and a good team support. This is beneficial for Clemenceau too, because it enjoys fighting at medium to close range. If the situation turns bad, just reverse and hide behind the island. It’s not recommended to go into a brawl (joust) or kite because it doesn’t have rear guns.

Clemenceau can also be positioned at the far right or far left of the flank. In this position, Clemenceau can make crossfires with its slower teammates that are at the back.

If there are enemies that has MAP ammunition (for example King George V) or there’s a CV, Clemenceau must not stay bowtanking. MAP can penetrate Clemenceau from the front. CV can farm it to death. Keep maneuvering, speed juke to dodge shells, use engine overload if needed. Angle your ship all the time.

Is it worth to buy?

Clemenceau is a gem ship. If you want to buy it, you just need to save gems from daily missions and events. Clemenceau is a very strong ship in PVP because most fights happen in medium range. It’s easy to use and scales well with skill.
