Izumi is a preliminary design before the Japanese Navy made A-140 projects for capital ships. The design is quite simplistic and small. Izumi has ten 410 mm guns with fast shell velocity and decent accuracy. The shells have low penetration and damage for its caliber. Izumi can reliably hit targets even at long range, but the damage per hit is relatively low.

Unlike Yamato, the dispersion pattern is more circular. Izumi can hit bowtanking targets more comfortably. However, Izumi has slow reload which limits its damage output. Izumi’s HE performance is terrible; on par with MMweight 7.0 battleship. The fire chance is very low. Bowtanking against Izumi is very effective.

The caliber is sufficient to overmatch most cruisers except Des Moines and Pr66. Combined with fast shell velocity, Izumi is a great choice in battles with plenty of cruisers.

Izumi has very slow speed but the turning radius and rudder shift time are good. Izumi has weak armor and big citadel. However, Izumi’s hull is small, so it’s hard to hit this ship. Strangely, Izumi has big surface detectability despite its small size. The AA is garbage, just like other IJN ships.

Playstyle

In a team battle, Izumi’s best position is at the center-back position, open water. In this position, Izumi can fire at any enemy that’s going to the flank and snapshot any broadsiding enemy. It has high shell velocity that makes hitting enemies at long range relatively easy. No need to bowtank. You can angle and fire all guns. Use speed juke to dodge incoming attacks. Learn how to speed juke. Equip artillery warning crew skill so you can dodge easier. The ideal fighting range is more than 14 km.

Izumi’s high shell velocity and accurate guns makes it a good choice in a CV battle. Even though it has terrible AA, it can inflict a lot of damage to the enemy before it sinks. If the enemy CV ignores it, Izumi is much more dangerous than other ships with slow shells.

Is it worth to buy?

Izumi is a tech tree ship, which means you just have to grind it. No need to spend money. But unlike other tech tree ships, Izumi is pretty expensive. This is intentional so that inexperienced player won’t buy it. The top tier ship, Omi, has similar playstyle to Izumi. If you like Izumi, grind to get Omi.
