Jellicoe’s design is basically King George V (KGV) with 2 more guns (12 instead of 10) and slightly better side armor. However, to justify its higher tier, developers gave it ridiculous HE and smokescreen.

Jellicoe is one of the best HE spammers in its tier. The damage per salvo is low, but the fire chance is high and the reload is fast. The accuracy is very good at short range, but significantly worse at long range. The dispersion pattern is not vertical (like other British battleships) so it’s actually better at spreading fires. The main downside is bad AP performance due to low caliber (356 mm). There are many battleships and some cruisers that can shrug off its AP. The slow shell velocity makes it hard to hit targets at long range. Most of the time, the player is stuck using HE. Only if the enemy is broadsiding at close range then AP can be useful.

Jellicoe’s armor is not much different from KGV. However, because it’s facing high tier battleships that has much stronger guns, Jellicoe’s armor feels relatively weaker. It’s also easy to get burned. Jellicoe’s HP is just slightly better than KGV and certainly much lower than most battleships in its tier. This is why developers gave it smokescreen consumable. The smokescreen only has 4-5 puffs (20 seconds activation). If Jellicoe is sailing at full speed, it must decelerate before activating the smokescreen or else it will get out of the smokescreen before it can stop. If used properly smokescreen can help it live for a long time. Remember that once it’s inside the smoke, the enemy might not be detected anymore and it needs a teammate to spot the enemy. Jellicoe has fighter planes, but those planes can’t spot enemies (only for defending against CV attacks).

Despite having low defense, it’s not lacking in survivability thanks to its excellent maneuverability, small size, and good concealment. In those aspects, it’s similarity to KGV actually gives it advantage over high tier battleships that are big and clumsy. The AA is decent, but won’t be enough to deter a good CV player. The only way to defend against CV attacks is speed juke and hope the CV misses.

Playstyle

Due to slow shell velocity and bad long range accuracy, it’s better to play at short to medium range. The ideal fighting range is less than 13 km. At the start of the battle, go to a flank and fight one enemy at a time. Use island to shield your ship from any enemy that can shoot you from the side. Keep your bow pointed forward.

If you’re an experienced player, you can angle your ship and fire all of your guns while maneuvering. Turn to bowtank and change speed when the enemy shoots, then accelerate and show more broadside again before you shoot all your guns. This extreme maneuver requires precise timing and high skill investment.

Use AP against broadsiding enemies at close range. HE against everything else. If you’re forced to play at long range, use HE. Any shell that hits has a high chance to set fire. If you’re not sure what ammunition to choose, just pick HE.

If you’re under focused fire, use smokescreen to hide yourself. If the situation turns bad, use smokescreen to turn back and kite the enemy. Unlike when pushing, it’s recommended to stay at medium range (12-15 km) when kiting because it has bad turret firing angle. Sail at 1/4 speed when the enemy isn’t shooting, then accelerate to full speed if the enemy shoots at your ship or reverse if the enemy shoots in front of your ship.

CV battles often conducted at long range, and the slow shell velocity will make Jellicoe suffer. In addition, Jellicoe’s AA is not enough to deter enemy CV. Because the smokescreen is small, it’s only effective against dive bombers but not torpedoplanes. Most of the time, Jellicoe just rely on dodging and speed juking, while hoping that the enemy CV is bad. You must sail together with your teammates so they can protect you with their AA.

Is it worth to buy?

Jellicoe is a very fun ship in PVP. It’s not a strong battleship because of its small AP power, but it’s good for farming damage with HE. In arena, it’s much harder to use.

Jellicoe is a rank point ship. Rank point is obtainable from arena rank reward, event, or shop (as a limited item). It’s a rare currency. Jellicoe is worth to buy if you like playing PVP.
