Louisiana is essentially a Montana but with light 4×2 406 mm guns, allowing it to reach very high shell velocity in exchange for low penetration and damage. Louisiana has the highest shell velocity in the game, which makes sniping very easy. The accuracy is similar to Montana, although usually 1-2 shells are wonky. The AP penetration is much lower than regular American 406 mm AP because the shells are light. Louisiana can rarely citadel broadsiding battleships.

Louisiana’s main strength is its ability to reliably hit targets at long range. This makes Louisiana shines in arena, especially maps with few islands. At short range, Louisiana gets outgunned by practically any high tier battleship due to low penetration and damage. Louisiana also has slow turret rotation, which impedes its flexibility in close combat.

Louisiana’s armor is good. It’s similar to Montana, but the bow armor is weaker. Unlike Montana, Louisiana’s bow armor can be penetrated by Super Yamato’s AP. Louisiana has big size, slow speed, and bad maneuverability which makes it easy to get hit. Louisiana has engine boost consumable, but it only increases the speed from 28 knots to 30.8 knots. Louisiana has bad surface detectability due to its size. The AA is on the same level as Montana and Illinois.

Playstyle

Louisiana is a sniper. The ideal fighting range is more than 17 km. Fighting at close range will put Louisiana at a disadvantage because it’s big and not maneuverable.

Sail on the center-back of the map. Your job is to snipe enemies that are moving to the flanks and counter the enemy’s sniper. Staying in the center ensures that you can cover a lot of area and create crossfire with your teammates at the flank. Use AP as the primary ammunition. Most of the time, you don’t need to use HE unless the enemy is bowtanking. Use speed juke to dodge shells. Angle your ship so the enemy doesn’t hit your citadel. Louisiana’ armor works well at long range.

Louisiana has good armor, so it can be used as a tank for pushing. However, it’s not as good as other tank battleships. It will also lose a gunfight against aggressive battleships like Illinois. If you want to push, make sure that your allies are also pushing so you can switch the tanking role if needed.

Louisiana has strong AA and planes, just like other US ships. CV battles tend to be long range sniping, and this makes Louisiana exceptionally good for it. In a CV battle, sail together with other teammates and protect them with your AA. Shoot at any broadsiding enemy, preferable those that are being attacked by your CV. Keep in mind that Louisiana is big and not maneuverable. Your AA alone won’t be able to stop tier 9 CV. If the CV is attacking you, just run away.

Is it worth to buy?

Louisiana is one of the best snipers in the game, but it’s so specialized in sniping that if forced to fight in close combat it falls apart. If you like sniping, probably in arena, you can buy it.

Louisiana is a free exp ship, which means you just have to grind it. Free exp is obtained after every battle. No need to spend money.
