Prince of Wales (PoW) was a King George V (KGV)-class battleship. It has extensive battle history during the second world war, including a battle against Bismarck in the Denmark Strait. PoW has ten 356 mm guns, six at the front, four at the back. Unlike KGV, PoW has HE ammunition instead of MAP. PoW is a good fire starter because it has good penetration, fire chance, and accuray. The AP performance is slightly below average because it lacks battleship overmatch ability and it loses lots of penetration at long range. It still can penetrate cruisers from any angle (except bowtanking Wichita). The guns have slow shell velocity and high air drag, which makes it bad for sniping.

Prince of Wales has bad turret firing angle. It has to show a lot of broadside to fire a full salvo. Unfortunately, it has bad armor. It can be penetrated by 380 mm guns from any angle. This makes PoW pretty hard to play and not suitable for close range. It takes a lot of skill to use.

Prince of Wales has decent speed and amazing acceleration. With proper build, it can have similar acceleration level with cruisers. PoW has good concealment which allows it to sneak up and play more forward. PoW also have good maneuverability to counteract its bad firing angle. The player must utilize these abilities to the fullest. Instead of tanking damage with its armor, it’s better to dodge shells to avoid getting damaged.

Playstyle

Prince of Wales has slow shell velocity, but at low tier most battleships have slow speed so aiming is not that hard. It’s actually less effective at short range because of bad armor. The ideal engagement range is between 11 km – 15 km. Use AP as the default ammunition, especially in battles with lots of cruisers. If the AP fails to penetrate, change to HE and burn the enemy. HE should be the default ammunition if you’re forced to fight in long range battles (>15 km).

At the start of the match, sail to a flank. You can sail more forward than your teammates unless there are a lot of cruisers and destroyers on the enemy. Try to actively create crossfire with your teammates. Speed juke to dodge shells. You can try this simple speed juke tactic: sail at 1/4 speed when the enemy isn’t shooting, accelerate to full speed when the enemy shoots at you, reverse if the enemy shoots in front of your ship. If the enemy’s firepower is superior, angle away and kite the enemy. If your team’s firepower is superior, push together with your teammates but don’t be too aggressive. PoW is bad at tanking, so when pushing it should take a support role.

Is it worth to buy?

Prince of Wales was downgraded from KGV too much, it feels like a completely different ship. Due to bad armor and firing angle, an inexperienced player might get sunk very quickly.

Prince of Wales is purchasable with Rank Point. Rank point is a reward from ranking up in arena. Rank point sometimes is sold in limited number in the shop. Because it’s a rare currency, spending on Prince of Wales is not recommended. Prince of Wales can also be obtained with prism. However, to get prism you must spend money. It’s not worth to buy.
