PVP rating

Temeraire is basically a longer Lion, with 4×3 406 mm guns, improved accuracy, and HE ammunition instead of MAP. Temeraire is arguably the best HE spammer in the game. The HE performance is outstanding, probably even better than Montana. Unlike most British BBs, the AP performance is also really good; the damage and penetration is sufficient to devastate any ship. The slow shell velocity makes it hard to hit targets at long range. The dispersion is vertical, but due to its very high accuracy, at mid to close range it has no problem landing shells.

Temeraire has better armor than Lion. The citadel is much more protected and overall it’s more resistant to HE. Just like Lion, it has cruiser-level acceleration, great concealment, and excellent maneuverability, which makes it really hard to sink this ship. It can ambush enemies and then disappear again. Temeraire has bad AA. The only way to defend against CV attacks is speed juke and hope the CV misses.

Playstyle

Due to slow shell velocity, it’s better to play at short to medium range. The ideal fighting range is less than 15 km. Temeraire has high survivability and can survive intense combat. Use AP against broadsiding enemies. HE against everything else. If you’re forced to play at long range, use HE. Any shell that hits has a high chance to set fire. If you’re not sure what ammunition to choose, just pick HE. In fact, it’s okay if you use HE the entire time because the HE performance is really strong.

Kiting is the best position to maximize its damage output. It can also bowtank and lead the push. Great concealment and maneuverability makes it flexible in many situations. If the situation turns bad, Temeraire can just stop pushing, turn back, and kite the enemy. A kiting Temeraire is a nightmare to deal with because it can burn any ship that pursues it while taking so little damage in return. You can try this simple tactic: stay at medium range (12-15 km), sail at 1/4 speed when the enemy isn’t shooting, accelerate to full speed when the enemy shoots at you, reverse if the enemy shoots in front of your ship.

CV battles often conducted at long range, and the slow shell velocity will make Temeraire suffer. In addition, Temeraire don’t have AA to deter enemy CV. Most of the time, Temeraire just rely on dodging and speed juking, while hoping that the enemy CV is bad. You must sail together with your teammates so they can protect you with their AA.

Is it worth to buy?

Temeraire is a very strong ship in PVP. With enough skill, it’s also good in arena. Temeraire is a prism ship and quite expensive. Considering that this is not a pay-to-win game, spending money for Temeraire is probably not worth it. However, if you have money and want to buy a good high tier ship, Temeraire is arguably the best pick. Other high tier prism ships are either too situational or too inflexible to use.
