Virginia is a US fast battleship project with monstrous 300k HP engine. Appearance-wise, it looks similar to Iowa-class battleships but much longer.

Virginia’s 16-inch guns have similar penetration to 18-inch guns. It also reloads and rotates quickly. The accuracy is very high to the point that even though accuracy module is not equipped, it’s still accurate. This means despite having only nine 16-inch guns, the performance can rival 18-inch guns. Just like all US battleships, it has slow shell velocity but in PVP it’s still usable.

Because of the 300k HP engine, Virginia’s top speed exceeds most cruisers (36 knots). If the engine overload consumable is activated, the speed will reach 39.6 knots (faster than many destroyers). This makes Virginia the fastest battleship in the game. Virginia can easily chase the enemies or retreat. However, it has big turning radius as a consequence.

Virginia’s secondaries are the best in the game. The secondaries consist of 152 mm guns with 7.5 km base range, absurdly high penetration, and excellent fire chance. Interestingly, the shell arc of those secondaries is very good. At less than 7 km range, German secondaries will hit the belt of enemy battleships and do nothing, while Virginia’s secondaries still hit the superstructure and deal massive damage over time. The dispersion pattern and reload of the secondaries have been nerfed, but it’s still very strong.

Virginia’s armor look weak on paper, but it’s actually decent. The bow and stern armor is very strong. The citadel is low and sometimes hard to hit. When angled, it’s almost impossible to penetrate its armor with AP. The hull shape is also very streamline, which makes at long range many shells aimed at this ship will miss. However, since it has big size and large turning radius, showing broadside should always be avoided. Even regular penetration can hurt this ship when broadsiding.

Virginia with camouflage has great concealment. It’s even stealthier than Pr66, a cruiser. Virginia can easily sneak up and ambush enemies.

Virginia has the strongest AA among battleships. It also has fighter planes to help defending itself. This AA is extremely effective in PVE missions including Midway 4-4. However, it’s a big ship and an average CV player can still farm it. A good CV player can kill it in one-two strikes.

Playstyle

At long range its performance falls due to slow shell velocity. The ideal fighting range for Virginia is less than 15 km. You can use islands to cover your approach before ambushing the enemy. However, since Virginia has good armor, the player doesn’t really need to be hiding all the time. If you have good aim, you can play Virginia at longer range since it has good accuracy.

With engine overload consumable activated, it can outmaneuver the enemies before their guns can turn. Because Virginia is very slim, just by turning to the left and right regularly you can mess with the enemy’s aim. Virginia can do extremely well when pushing together with teammates to destroy the enemy flank. It has no problem leading the push because of strong bow armor. You can also use engine overload consumable then sail to the flank to create crossfire. The only thing that you must avoid is showing your broadside.

In a CV battle, Virginia will suffer because of slow shell velocity, big size, and large turning radius. However, strong AA will be a deterrent to below average CV players. If you see the enemy CV is a noob, you can try to play more aggressively (but don’t rush). Always keep engine overload consumable ready so you can retreat whenever you need. Also, try to sail together with your teammates so you can cover them with your AA.

Is it worth to buy?

Virginia is arguably the strongest battleship for PVE. It’s also very strong in PVP. An enemy that gets rushed by Virginia simply can’t escape. A division of two competent Virginia player can crush a flank in 5 minutes. With enough skill, it’s also good in arena. Virginia is a tech tree ship, you just need to grind Iowa to get it. Virginia is a must have whether you’re a new player or a veteran.
