Tchoung King was initially called HMS Aurora, an Arethusa-class light cruiser built by the British Navy. it was sold to the Chinese navy after World War II and got a new name. Tchoung King has several differences to Arethusa. The main difference is Tchoung King’s main armament. It uses 4×2 rapid-firing 130 mm guns, similar to Soviet destroyers. It has lower caliber and less range than Arethusa, but much faster reload and shell velocity. It has sufficient penetration, damage, and accuracy to melt any ship quickly. The short range exposes the ship to more danger than other cruisers that can shoot from longer range. It has 8 km torpedoes that can be used for self defense or ambushing a clueless enemy.

Tchoung King’s armor is thin. Battleship guns can overmatch it from any angle. However, it has small size and it can maneuver nicely to avoid shells. The speed is decent for a low tier cruiser and it has slightly better deceleration than other cruisers. it can equip engine overload consumable if needed. It has amazing concealment so sometimes it can be used as a budget destroyer. The AA is bad.

Playstyle

At the start of the battle, sail to a capture base. If there’s an enemy destroyer around, don’t play too aggressively. But if there are no destroyers, you can try to enter the base directly. Your job is to spot the enemy and capture the base. If the enemy is spotted, let your teammates shoot the enemy. If you’re not detected, don’t shoot until you capture the base. Observe the enemy ships. If there’s an enemy that’s sailing to your position, drop torpedoes and sail away. Shoot the enemy while kiting if there are not many enemies that can shoot you back. If there are too many enemies, run and find a good island to hide behind. Lob shells from behind island so the enemies can’t shoot you back. If there’s no island to hide, keep kiting.

Stay more than 10 km from enemy battleship. Speed juke to dodge shells. You can try this simple speed juke tactic: sail at 1/4 speed when the enemy isn’t shooting, accelerate to full speed when the enemy shoots at you (use engine overload consumable if needed), reverse if the enemy shoots in front of your ship. Turn your ship to increase its effectiveness. You must practice a lot to get a grasp on how this ship’s engine performs. Don’t show broadside and don’t bowtank the enemy. Always keep your ship angled. if your HP is low, stop shooting and just focus on running away. You have good concealment. If you stay more than 10 km from the enemy, they won’t spot you unless you shoot them.

To maximize your effectiveness, try to create a crossfire with your teammates. If your teammate is tanking, you sail to the side of the enemy ship and shoot at their broadside.

Shoot AP against broadsiding cruiser, battleship or CV. Aim at the waterline if the enemy is a cruiser or CV. Aim at the upper belt or superstructure if the enemy is a battleship. Shoot HE if the enemy is angling or is a destroyer.

In a CV battle, always stay close to allied ships (especially BBs and CV) so you can protect each other with overlapping AA. Your damage output will be low but you can become useful.

Tchoung King has 3 consumable choices. Anti-air barrage consumable can help you and your teammates survive an air strike. It’s a good choice for CV battles. Radar consumable has 15 km range, very useful in battles with plenty of destroyers and cruisers. This consumable can prevent you getting ambushed. Engine overload consumable makes your ship sail faster, very useful in battles with plenty of battleships and not many islands to hide. If you’re not sure which consumable to pick, engine overload consumable is the safest pick because battleships are almost always present but other ships don’t.

Is it worth to buy?

Tchoung King has murderous guns but severely handicapped by short range. At the start of the battle, it often has to play like a destroyer (spotting targets and occupying key areas). You have to pick your targets wisely before shooting. Thankfully, because it’s a low tier ship, there are plenty of noob players to shoot.

Tchoung King is a gem ship. If you want to buy it, you need to save gems from daily missions and events. No need to spend money. It’s pretty cheap and fun to play. It’s worth to buy if you like playing cruisers in low tier. Keep in mind that there are less players in low tier compared to high tier, so the matchmaker will often pair you with bots.
