SHIP EQUIPMENT

Ship equipment is extremely important because it can improve your ship’s strengths and reduce its weaknesses. Choosing the correct equipment requires knowledge on what your ship needs as well as your own playstyle. In this article we will give you some explanation and guide you on which equipment to choose.

Slot 1

Advanced disaster retardant module

This module reduces flood and fire chance. This is the top pick for all ships except some destroyers.

Magazine advanced defense module

It reduces detonation chance. But since a long time ago, detonation chance has been reduced dramatically by the developers so this module is useless now.

Secondary battery advanced defense module

It increases the HP of secondary batteries and AA guns, making them less prone to breaking when getting shot at. However, secondary battery is rarely a threat to other ships and AA is not a deterrent for a good CV player. Even though you can keep your SG and AA intact, it won’t guarantee your survival or more damage output. Using this module is pointless.

Main battery advanced defense module

This module increases the HP of main guns and torpedo tubes, reducing their destruction chance, and reduces the repair time if they’re broken. This module is very good for destroyers.

Slot 2

Steering gears enhancement module

It significantly reduces rudder shift time, making your ship turn faster. This module is the top pick for ships that need to maneuver a lot (usually in close combat) such as German battleships. This module is more useful in PVP.

Engine enhancement module

It significantly improves engine acceleration, making it easier to dodge attacks by changing speed. It can also improve agility because in order to turn the ship it needs to gain some speed. This module is good for PVP and the top pick for arena. Most battleships and all cruisers need this module.

Advanced helm repair defense module

This module increases the HP of steering gears and reduces the repair time if they’re broken. However, steering gears are rarely broken and even if they break, it’s better to use damage control instead.

Advanced engine repair defense module

This module increases the HP of the engine and reduces the repair time if it’s broken. However, engine is rarely broken (even rarer than steering gears). Even if the engine is broken, it’s better to use damage control instead.

Disaster control module

This module reduces the duration of fire and flood. It’s useful for big ships with awful maneuverability, for example Maine, Yamato, and H42. This module allows you to tank more damage. However, taking no damage is still better than enduring it. Depending on your skill and playstyle, steering gears or engine enhancement module might be a better option because your ship will not be so passive.

Slot 3

Anti-air enhancement module

Increases the power of AA guns by 30% in arena and 45% in other game modes. This module can only be found on high tier battleships. Only useful for battleships that already have strong AA gun power like US battleships, some high tier French battleships, and Pr24. It still won’t deter a competent CV player though. Since CV is rare anyway, picking this module is usually not recommended.

AA-guns enhancement module

Increases the range of AA guns by 20%. This module is useful for AA-focused ships (such as US light cruisers, British light cruisers, and US battleships). Even then, the effectiveness is questionable because planes can still bypass AA. It’s only useful as a deterrent against newbie CV players.

Secondary armament enhancement module

Increases the accuracy and range of secondary guns by 20% (secondary range +25% in arena). This module is only useful for German battleships (except York) and Illinois because they have good secondary gun range and reload.

Main battery enhancement module

Increases the main battery reload speed by 5% and rotation speed by 15%. For large cruisers or battlecruisers, it increases the main battery reload speed by 12% and rotation speed by 20%. The reload buff from this module is insignificant, but the turret rotation speed increase is very helpful for ships with slow turret rotation speed. This module is the top pick for Yamato, Yamato Refit, and Super Yamato. They already have good accuracy and reload, but slow rotation speed often makes them miss important moments to shoot. This module can also be helpful for some battleships that rely on agility (like Charlemagne) so when the ship is turning the aim can still lock on target. For battlecruisers, the effectiveness of this module is still debatable but might be a good choice depending on your taste.

Aiming system module

Increases main gun accuracy, secondary gun accuracy, secondary gun range, and torpedo tube rotation speed. The value increase is not much, but this module is the most universal. Cruisers at tier 8 and above has bigger main gun accuracy enhancement value than other ships (15% compared to 7%). This module is the top pick unless your ship or your fighting style really needs another module.

Aircraft defense enhancement module

Increases aircraft HP by 15% in arena, 10% in other modes. This module is mostly found on CVs. Some cruisers like Oyodo and Chikuma also has this module, but the value is 15% in all modes. This module is the top pick if you want to make your plane as the primary damage source. It makes Oyodo’s plane still useful against tier 9 battleships. Imagine a CV using this module.
